How it works

From report to refund

A simple process, built to hold non-lawyers who prey on consumers accountable.

1. Tell us what happened

Fill out the short report on our home page. It takes about a minute. You'll tell us who took your money, what they promised, roughly what you paid, and how it hurt your case. Anything you can share about receipts, contracts, texts, or filings helps — but you don't need it to start.

2. We investigate

Our team, together with attorneys at Javitch Law Office, reviews the facts. We confirm the person or business isn't a licensed attorney (using state bar directories and, for immigration, the federal accredited-representative registry), assess whether their conduct crossed the line into the unauthorized practice of law, and identify the remedies available in your state.

3. We act

Depending on the facts, we typically pursue some combination of:

  • Refund demand — a formal letter demanding your money back.
  • Civil claim — statutory damages, actual damages, and (in some states) punitive damages or attorneys' fees.
  • Bar complaint / state AG referral — to stop them from harming anyone else.
  • Case rescue — coordinating with a real attorney to fix the underlying legal matter (missed deadline, wrong filing, etc.).

What it costs you

Nothing to start. The review is free. Cases are typically handled on contingency by partnering attorneys — you pay nothing unless there's a recovery.

How long it takes

Most people hear back within 1–2 business days. Simple refund cases can resolve in weeks. More complex claims — especially where the underlying case (immigration, family, eviction) also needs to be repaired — take longer, and we'll walk you through the timeline before you commit to anything.
